Responsibility

Life is stressful as it is. With the addition of an ailing U.S. economy and the emergence and spread of swine flu, I think my stress level is heightened. And to think that the media loves to sensationalize the news, I am right yet again to avoid reading the newspaper or watching the news. On Monday, I was irritated to see a newspaper with the front cover featuring a woman wearing a mask and on the side is a big chart of how many people were infected in each state, in bold, CAPITAL letters. I was close to snapping like a twig. This type of publicity only encourages hysteria and panic to an already stressed population. I know it is very important to be aware on current events and to be a well informed citizen, but sometimes, the media (some) tend to forget their responsibility - to report and write the exact news - not to sensationalize and exaggerate in order to sell. As a citizen, I demand RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM. (I needed to get that out of my system.)

Work has been keeping me busy. I'm just glad this week is half way through, and I should be singing "Friday I'm in Love" soon. I hope everyone's having a good week.

A reminder from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention): Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

  9. Wonderful template! Don't change to a grayish/drab-colored one ok? :-)

I've successfully avoided watching TV and newspaper for the past couple of years. I don't feel any lesser by doing that.

  10. Artemis, Thank you. Yes, I'll make sure I don't change my template into something gray...lol.

  11. Swine flu is the most celebrated news here, a deviation from the government's graft and corruption issues.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sheng, It's a bad deviation though. Corruption is like flu that never goes away.

  13. The news are really scary. About sensationalism, I remember when I SARS hit Baguio several years ago. The news were too sensationalized that when I went there I was full geared (mask, etc.) only to notice that the locals are not wearing one. I even got quizzical looks.

  14. I agree with you. We are going to the US in June and my parents-in-law are worried about SI. As if everyone in the US has contracted that flu and that if we go there we'd get it too.

  15. Well, that's how media goes. I myself don't watch news anymore nor read newspapers. If only to be feed up with such negativity.

I just hope swine flu will cease the soonest.

And oh, by the way, your lay-out is so cute I even browsed the artist's site and happy weekend. :)

  16. Wits, that's exactly what i mean, it's like scaring people just because the can.

Betchay, how exciting =). i think you'll be fine coming here. i wish we could meet.

Lene, i know. i really hope this swine flu is yesterday's news already. glad you like the template. thanks.

  17. Kaya nga I try to avoid as much news lately as possible. I just browse to keep updated with some really important matters. Sobrang sensationalized na kasi yung ibang news.

  18. Rico, Oo, sobra na kung minsan.
